June 8th was National Best Friend Day and, as with everything in my life lately, I am a little late celebrating my BFF. But she is worth celebrating, even if she doesn’t realize her awesomeness.

It’s funny, when I think about it. I feel like T has been a part of my life for ages. It’s amazing to me that I made it through 22 years without her? Now that I have her, I know that if I had to go through life without her, I would simply…break.

It wasn’t love at first sight, but one day the planets aligned and from that moment on, I always had a safe harbor in any storm. And there were some storms.

But because of her, I am a better person (with a better wardrobe.) She made me better, she made life better and I hope I make her better, too.

To me, this is what our Friendship looks like:

-Friendship isn’t always telling the other person what they want to hear… it’s telling them what they need to hear…which sometimes is nothing at all.

-Friendship helps you find laughter when you don’t feel like it and lets you cry when you need to (and ignoring the snotty, running nose that comes with the ugly cry face.)

-Friendship isn’t about everything being sunny and wonderful… it’s cherishing those moments but being willing to stand strong in the storm.

-Friendship gives you someone to point out the crazy and tell you the hard truths.

-Friendship means you can’t stay mad for too long because there are other things you need to get to talking about.

-Friendship means holding a candle in the darkness and waiting until she is ready to join you in the light. And you wait patiently and with unwavering love.

Friendship is love.

So, in honor of National Best Friend Day, I want to thank T. For being there through good times and bad. For making me smile just by existing. For taking my side in stupid arguments without needing a reasonable reason. For embracing my crazy and making it ok. For not vomiting as she reads this post.

Oprah may have Gayle. Meredith has Christina. Elphaba had Galinda. But I have T. I win 🙂
