I think I have a good grasp of the English language.  Okay, maybe not “good,”  but let us assume I have a decent grasp of the English Language…

That being said, I also don’t pretend to be an expert on the Declaration of Independence, but I can say I have read it. I’ve even read it more than once.   It is just that there is a specific sentence which seems to cause confusion…..

The Declaration of Independence says:

…We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness…
 

  1. We are guaranteed the to Right to Life… yup, it definitely says that. I am with you…
  2. We are guaranteed the Right to Liberty…sure thing, it very loudly and clearly states this, without a doubt…
  3. We are guaranteed the Right to Equal Success… whaaat? Wait, that isn’t what it says?  Are you sure?  Hold on, read that sentence above again… let’s be really, really sure that isn’t what it says…Hmmm, so it doesn’t actually say that?  Maybe we should let someone know? It doesn’t say success is a RIGHT?  Crud, someone better alert the Media….

 
Success is EARNED and not GIVEN… Sigh…or have I been doing it wrong all these years?
